TEAM DART

Reaching the Ultimate Goal "Space"

Team DART (DRONES, AERO-MODELING AND ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGIES) is the recent addition to ASTRA which will be involved in developing drone prototypes by incorporating innovative technologies and realizing new applications for drone systems in day-to-day life.

The team will carry out activities related to aero-modeling and developing lightweight planes and gliders and develop various rovers and excursion vehicles along with other robotic prototypes with an emphasis on space and extraterrestrial operations.

Event 1

Motion Craft

Motion Craft which was a part of Launchpad 2024, gave attendees an overview of Astra's DART Team and included a live demonstration of rovers built by the team. Participants got an up-close look at the design and functionality of these innovative creations.

ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Design and Fabrication of a rocker-bogie system

Design and Fabrication of a rocker-bogie system for a Rover (using economical methods).

2. preliminary prototype of a Rocker Bogie Rover Chassis

A preliminary prototype of a Rocker Bogie Rover Chassis was fabricated using PVC Trusses and 3D Printed Joints and Motor casings. Assembly was performed and strength testing was carried out.

3. Torque Analysis and testing of various motors for different terrains

Torque Analysis and testing of various motors for different terrains: Various Motors were studied and their performance metrics were gauged for multi-terrain rovers. Planetary Gear Motors and Brushless Motors were studied in particular.

4. Prototype of an autonomous roving system.

This prototype was mainly built to demonstrate the applications of an autonomous rover which can be helpful in navigating terrains that are harmful or not accessible to human beings.

5. Conceptualization of an end-to-end autonomous surveillance ground vehicle

The Multipurpose Autonomous Roving Vehicle was conceptualized with a primary emphasis on security applications. RF Communication and a suite of sensors were incorporated too.
